All NTPS students are required to attend the school inside the boundary in which they reside. See school boundary maps >>
If a student wishes to attend a different school (either another school in our district or a school elsewhere), they must follow the transfer process. Forms must be submitted by a parent or guardian. See NTPS Policy 3131 & 3141 for details.

Transfer requests for the current school year (2022-23) are currently accepted at any time via Skyward.
What about Kindergarten?
Kindergarten transfers are accepted starting August 7, 2023, @ 8:00 am.

How do I transfer INTO NTPS from outside the district?
To attend school in a non-resident district, NTPS must first release the student to start that new district's transfer process.
- Complete the OSPI Choice Transfer Request through their website, OSPI will send the request to NTPS Student Records to review.
- Once a release has been obtained, complete the Non-Resident Application Form or fill out the paper form below return it to Student Records by email ntpstransfers@nthurston.k12.wa.us or in-person (6620 Carpenter Road SE, Lacey, WA 98503)
Your request is not considered until both steps are completed.

How do I transfer OUT of North Thurston Public Schools?

Why are transfers not being approved at some schools?
In order to ensure space for resident students, the district reviews and limits transfers to some schools.

How often do I need to follow the transfer process for my student?
The transfer request must be submitted annually if the student wishes to continue to attend a school other than their resident school.

Will transfer students be allowed to ride the bus?
No. Students who are approved to transfer into an NTPS school from outside the district, or to a different school other than their resident school, they are NOT permitted to ride district transportation and must make other arrangements.

What if I want my NTPS student to attend a different NTPS school?
Transferring to another school inside our district is called an intra-district transfer. Complete the intra-district transfer form.
Paper forms will not be accepted and are processed in the order they are received. Your request will not be time-stamped until the form is completed.
Families will be notified of the decision via letter within 45 days of receipt of the request.

What if we have moved within the district and wish to attend the new school?
If you have moved within the district and wish to attend the new school:
- Fill out the Verification of Residency Statement (PDF)
- Bring proof of address (examples are on the form) and the above form to your new resident school office

What if we have moved within the district and my student wishes to attend their old school?
If your family has relocated and your new address assigns your student to a new school, please follow the transfer process.
