Update 2/10/21: Secondary Hybrid Schedule

Dear North Thurston Public Schools families,

As we move forward with planning to safely welcome more students into buildings, we wanted to share our secondary hybrid learning model for middle and high school students. This model has been revised based on our experiences with remote learning, our desire to provide the best quality learning environment for our students, and taking into consideration feedback from students, staff, and families.

Our secondary model is an A/B in-person hybrid model (see below).  As a reminder, the number of students served on-site in a classroom is limited due to the requirement to physically distance students by six feet.  In most cases, it will be half the students enrolled in the class.

About this model:

  • All groups of students taught concurrently 3 periods each day. Some students attend in-person and others remote into the classroom for instruction at the same time as their peers who are being served in-person.
  • Students receive in-person instruction two days per week.
  • Learning is a combination of live instruction and group or independent work.
  • Teachers have time each day to connect with families.

Synchronous learning is when students on remote status (regardless of group) call in to the classroom via a Zoom or Meet link and experience the lesson at the same time as the in-person students.

Small groups of students will continue to be served as we roll out our hybrid model cautiously as recommended by Thurston County Public Health. If the time your student has been assigned to a small group needs to change, you will be contacted by your school.

The school day will end earlier than last year to provide time for educators to tutor students, assist with homework, and connect with families.  The daily school schedule with specific start and end times will be provided by your school.

High School parents only: If you have not yet registered your student for all remote or hybrid, the deadline to do so via Skyward has been extended to Thursday, February 11, 2021. Please complete the form called “Return to School Family Registration" in Skyward Family Access and view online forms.

Please note that Thurston County Public Health has not recommended the start of high school hybrid instruction at this time.  We will continue to keep our families informed of the status for starting in-person learning by grade level as those decisions are made.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to provide the most accurate information we can in an ever-changing pandemic environment.
