Volunteer Spotlight: Nelson, Evergreen Forest Elementary

It's National Volunteer Appreciation Week, April 22–26, and we are highlighting some of our awesome North Thurston volunteers! Meet Nelson, a parent volunteer at Evergreen Forest Elementary. Nelson coordinates the WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) program at Evergreen Forest. WATCH D.O.G.S. is a nationwide program that provides positive male role models for students and encourages dads and other men to get involved in their local schools. As a WATCH D.O.G., Nelson leads games at recess, helps organize field day, serves on the PTSA board, and is the Olympia Junior Programs representative for Evergreen Forest. He is also an area manager for Pizza Hut, which is Evergreen Forest’s PIE Partner! Nelson has been volunteering since his daughter (now in fifth grade) was in kindergarten and has known many of the Evergreen Forest students for years. He is a familiar face to almost everyone in the building, and he loves seeing the kids learn and grow over time. Apply to be an NTPS volunteer today!
