2020 Varsity Letter in Community Service Awards
Congratulations to our 2020 Varsity Letter in Community Service recipients, Malia Vinson of River Ridge and Jordan Moldenhauer of Timberline! Both seniors volunteered over 200 hours to qualify for the award. You are inspiring - thank you for your service to our community!
Malia Vinson has been a regular volunteer with Joint Animal Services, serving over 100 hours since 2018, caring for cats and helping with their adoptions. Chandra Mincher of Animal Services says “she was fabulous and we were very lucky to have her.” Malia’s love of animals continued with volunteer service for the TSA K9 Program at SeaTac airport, helping train canines in explosives detection. She showed her school spirit by helping with River Ridge Concessions this fall, where she recognized the importance of cooperation and building relationships. Malia also served over 120 hours last summer doing administrative work with the American Red Cross at Madigan Army Hospital, and says “the entire experience was one of my most favorite things I have ever done.”
Jordan Moldenhauer has volunteered nearly 200 hours with NTPS at Lakes, Chambers Prairie, Komachin, and Timberline since 2015 – helping in classrooms and the office, serving as a peer tutor, refereeing Unified Basketball, and even being the Lakes school mascot! Tracy Fosbre at Lakes says Jordan “is willing to help out wherever we have need, from running passes to packing up a student at the end of the day. We will miss seeing her smiling face in our halls but know she is going to be brilliant in her future adventures.” She also served with Tenino Elementary and Little Red Schoolhouse to support students and families in our community. Jordan says her favorite volunteer experience was working on the Lacey Youth Council, where she served 45 hours participating in our local government and helping plan community projects.
Great work Malia & Jordan. Congratulations on your award and upcoming graduation!
