Highlights from the October 3, 2023 School Board meeting held at Evergreen Forest Elementary:

Evergreen Forest Elementary School Principal Heather McCarthy and 5th grade teacher Betsy Zurfluh shared a school project that builds the theme of “I Belong” into their school community. Every student has a photo in the main school hallway with their statement about why they belong at Evergreen Forest! Students shared with the Board some ways they feel a sense of belonging. The project aligns with our Strategic Plan Goal 2: Responsible, Resilient, Empowered Learners, Outcome c, Increased opportunity for student voice and Outcome d, Increased percentage of students open to and accepting cultural diversity.

The Board passed a resolution in support of the 2023-24 Compassionate Community campaign, Culture of Kindness. The goal is to celebrate 100,000 acts of kindness this year in our community! Learn more and share your acts of kindness.

The Board received an update on Strategic Plan Goal 5: Preparedness for Post-Secondary Success, Outcome a, Increased percentage of students passing in grades 6-9, culminating in an increased percentage of 10th grade students on track to graduate. The update focused on the district initiative to improve secondary grading practices. Learn more about the secondary grading practices initiative.

The Board approved resolutions to place two measures on the February 23, 2024, ballot: a replacement of the Educational Programs and Operations Levy, and a four-year capital levy for safety, technology, and facilities improvement.
