Board Meeting Highlights from March 7, 2023

School Leadership sit at a table opposite the school board, speaking.Several NTPS school principals presented updates on their 2022-23 School Improvement Plans to the School Board. Our schools are seeing significant progress in recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, addressing opportunity gaps, and supporting student outcomes! Highlights from each of the schools that presented their Improvement Plans at the Board meeting include:  

River Ridge High School

  • More than 80 percent of teachers are clearly communicating learning intentions by visibly posting learning targets.   

Timberline High School

  • 88.8 % of students responded positively to the question, “There is at least one adult at this school who knows and cares about me.”  

Aspire Performing Arts Academy

  • Increased 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade scores for students qualifying for special education from fall to winter.   

Nisqually Middle School

  • Decrease in chronic non-attendance for 7th-graders of low socioeconomic status from September 2021-December 2021 to September 2022-December 2022.  

Salish Middle School

  • An increase in 7th- and 8th-grade students were identified as low risk for math from fall to winter.  

Horizons Elementary

  • Daily class meetings to build the school community and form strong connections, Proactive Circles, and One School One Book initiative to support building a positive identity and valuing diversity.  

Lacey Elementary

  • Improvements to students meeting reading standards for 1st grade (60% to 64%), 2nd grade (57% to 67%), and 4th grade (78% to 82%).   

Mountain View Elementary

  • The school is using Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Restorative Practices to support students in need.
