NTPS student volunteers build tech skills, connection with Lacey residents

NTPS high school students helped answer Jubilee residents’ questions about smartphone cameras as part of our intergenerational Teen Tech Genius program. Students responded to questions about everything from using portrait mode to best photo upload practices.

This is the second event of the series: Students previously helped coach residents on navigating social media and answered questions about everything from podcasts to Zoom to Facebook!

Students involved in these events get to build relationships with community members while earning volunteer hours toward their graduation requirements. Students can even earn a varsity letter in community service!

Finding opportunities for students to collaborate and get involved with the community is aligned with our strategic plan. In 2019, the School Board determined that every student should “demonstrate skills in creative and evaluative reasoning, communication, and collaboration to address challenges in a socially just and democratic society.” The Board wanted to see an increased percentage of students participating in at least one positive school or community-based activity to support this goal.
