Free & Reduced Price Information

  • Applications for the 2023-2024 school year (paper and online) will be available Tuesday, August 22, 2023.

    • Only complete an application if you have a student attending one of these schools:
      • Aspire Performing Arts Academy
      • Chinook Middle School
      • Evergreen Forest Elementary
      • Horizons Elementary
      • Komachin Middle School
      • Lakes Elementary
      • Meadows Elementary
      • North Thurston High School
      • Olympic View Elementary
      • River Ridge High School
      • Salish Middle School
      • South Bay Elementary
      • Timberline High School
      • Woodland Elementary
      • Seven Oaks Elementary* 
        • *Seven Oaks Elementary qualifies for free meals under Washington State House Bill 1238, but it is important for families to complete free & reduced-price meal applications to support state funding.
    • Your school not on this list? Some schools qualified for USDA CEP funding
    • Families who qualify for Free & Reduced Lunch may also choose Fee Reduction. Please fill out the extra consent form under ONLINE forms (available in August) in Skyward to elect for fee reduction once your Free & Reduced application has been processed. See instructions on filling out the form at the bottom of this page.
    • Families who qualify for free & reduced-price lunch may also qualify for Emergency Broadband Benefits for internet access. Learn more about EBB here >>

    As participants in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), free and reduced-price meals are available to qualifying students.    

Apply Online Through Family Access

  • Login to your Skyward Family Access account (Browser-only) and follow these steps:

    PLEASE NOTE: Do NOT use the Skyward mobile app - online forms do not appear in the app. Use only a browser (mobile or desktop) to log into Skyward Family Access.

    1. Click the Food Service Application tile.
    2. Click Start New Application near the top right of the screen. If you are part of multiple families, you see the Add Online Application screen. Continue to the next step. If you are part of one family, you see the instructions for the online application. Skip to step 5.
    3. Choose the Family you wish to add an application to from the drop-down list.
    4. Click Create Application near the top left of the screen.
    5. Follow the prompts to complete and submit an application.

    You will receive an email once your application has been processed and your eligibility will be updated in Family Access.

Eligibility Notification in Family Access

  • Families who have filled out the Free & Reduced-Price Meals application or whose students have been Directly Certified via DSHS, will have their eligibility notification posted in Family Access. Please log into Skyward Family Access to check the status of your application under the Portfolio tile. Look for an attachment type of Food Service Letter.

Waiving ASB Fees

  • If your family qualifies for Free & Reduced Lunch prices, you can consent to have that status shared with our ASB offices at high schools and have a significant amount of your students' fees waived. The consent process will happen in Skyward Family Access.

    Notes: Consent to share information is NOT retroactive. Fees are only waived after the form has been completed. Fees or fines assigned prior to submitting consent will remain on the student's ledger until paid. Skyward updates information every 24 hours.

    Please use browser-based Skyward Family Access; do not use the Skyward mobile app.

    This process must be done for EACH student in the household whom you wish to include. 


    1. Log into Family Access with your login and password.
    2. Look for the Consent to Share form tile.

    3. Enter today's date in the Consent Date box.
    4. Select Yes under Consent to Share if you choose to share your information.
    5. A new box labeled Programs to Share will open. Click the magnifying glass in the new box to see all potentially waived fee types.
    6. Check the boxes for each fee type that you provide consent to.
    7. Make the last selection to choose Yes or No for ASB.
    8. Click Submit Form.
    9. Go back to the Family Access home screen and complete the form for any additional students.
