From Principal McCarthy

  • Heather McCarthyDear Evergreen Forest Elementary School Students, Families, and Community Members,

On behalf of the Evergreen Forest Staff, I would like to welcome you to another fantastic school year at Evergreen Forest Elementary School. We hope that this summer provided you with opportunities for fun and relaxation with friends and family. We are all excited to have students and families back in our classrooms and hallways.

As the new principal of Evergreen Forest Elementary, I thought it would be prudent to introduce myself. Dan, my husband, Haley and Gavin, our children, and I have been residents of the North Thurston Public School district for 14 years and have enjoyed every minute of it. My daughter Haley graduated from Timberline High School last year and is pursuing a degree in Dental Hygiene and my son is a Junior at Timberline. I believe in this community as a parent and educator.

During my educational career, I have spent time as a teacher, reading and math specialist, instructional coach, Dean of Students, Assistant Principal, and Principal. During all phases of my career, I have maintained a student-centered focus and found immense joy in working with children and families.

And I know children are wondering about the important things about me such as, do I have a dog? Yes, her name is Maggie, and she is a tiny Shih Tzu. My favorite food is Indian food. I enjoy hiking. I do not like roller coasters but love water slides. I also like reading, math, and science. And my favorite book right now will have to wait for that one! I want to read it to you!

This year, Evergreen Forest Elementary will continue to support all students in growing, learning, achieving, and dreaming. We commit to honoring diversity and supporting and including all students.

As principal, it is my priority that all students and community members feel safe, welcome, and heard at Evergreen Forest Elementary. I welcome the opportunity to partner with you in ensuring that this vision is realized for our children. This positive relationship is the basis of social emotional safety and academic achievement for our students.

We are excited to share the wonderful things happening in our school. Follow us on Facebook and look for our Evergreen Forest Monday Memo coming to you through School Messenger.

    With Warm Regards,
    Heather McCarthy

  • Mike KraftHello Bobcat Community,

I’m Mr. Kraft, and I’m your Assistant Principal at Evergreen Forest Elementary. This is my second year here, and I couldn’t be more excited to be back. I came to NTPS 7 years ago because of the district’s forward thinking, collaboration, and the sense of community. It is a great place to be!

What you can expect from me is that your student(s) will be safe, loved, and learn at high levels. I believe in an open-door policy. What that means is that I want to hear from you in any way possible, by email, phone, or in-person. This will also be reciprocated; I will collaborate and communicate to let you know what is happening at Evergreen Forest or individually as a family.

I’m a dad of 4 wonderful kids and that helps ground me in why I do, what I do. As you would want as parents and/or guardians, we strive to have a positive relationship with all students, and everyone is welcome! I am looking forward to a great year to come.
