What is the Future-Ready 1:1 Program?

  • Starting in the 2018-19 school year, all middle school students will be assigned their own one-to-one (1:1) Chromebooks (laptops) in protective cases. They’ll use the device throughout their school day to support learning and take it home for anytime, anywhere learning.

To ensure 1:1 would be a good fit for NTPS students and staff, Aspire and Salish Middle Schools participated in a pilot during second semester of the 2017-2018 school year. The trial with over 1,000 students was successful and the district approved expansion to all middle schools this coming school year.

  • Why 1:1 at NTPS?

    Posted by:

“All Students Empowered and Future-Ready” is our vision for North Thurston Public Schools. With our students growing up in an increasingly digital world, it’s essential that they have powerful digital learning tools coupled with strong digital citizenship instruction to participate in our 21st century society.

With this in mind, the Future-Ready 1:1 Program will ensure that all students will have equitable, safe, and reliable access to digital instructional tools to support learning anytime and anywhere.

  • Why Middle Schools First?

    Posted by:

The current district plan is to implement the Future Ready 1:1 Program in our middle schools first, then our high schools the following year. With that in mind, we want to prepare our middle school students first for an easy transition into the high school 1:1 program. Our middle schools also have the highest density of existing chromebooks, significantly reducing costs to pursue 1:1 at these grade levels first.

  • What about other NTPS schools?

    Posted by:

Dependent on the results of the rollout and funding, NTPS anticipates expanding the Future-Ready 1:1 Program to all high schools during the 2019-2020 school year.

At this time, NTPS has no plans to pursue a 1:1 take home program at our elementary schools. Our elementary students will continue to use building and classroom based devices to support instruction at school.

NTPS selected Chromebooks as our primary student device as a cost-effective solution to increase access to digital learning resources for students. NTPS Chromebooks are semi-ruggedized, reliable, and secure devices that offer students and staff access to the internet as well as a strong suite of collaboration tools via Google Apps to support student achievement.
