My family and I recently moved to the Olympia/Lacey area all the way from St. Louis, MO. This is my 3rd year working for the North Thurston School District as a special education preschool teacher. I have a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Southeast Missouri State University and a Special Education endorsement. I have been in the early childhood world since 2000 in serval different capacities and working with children that have had variety of ability levels. I place an emphasis on children being independent and responsible for their behavior. We build a community within our classroom and work towards being “super friends”. In our class, we work on social skills, self-help skills, fine motor, and gross motor alongside pre-academic skills.
One of my favorite quotes,
“I’ve come to a frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom. It’s my personal approach that creates the climate. It’s my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child’s life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanized or dehumanized.” ― Haim G. Ginott
