I am excited to help build a new community at Salish Middle School. Prior to Salish, I received my Master in Teaching at Evergreen and taught science at Nisqually Middle School for two years. I love exploring earth science and horticulture with middle schoolers because students always have the most amazing questions and observations about the world.
I grew up in Maryland and received a Bachelor's Degree in Art History from the University of Maryland, College Park. After interning at an art museum in Washington D.C., I realized that I loved creating materials for young visitors and giving tours to school groups. I left the museums for the mountains after college and explored environmental education in Colorado and Washington. After building hiking trails in Colorado, growing vegetables on Orcas Island, studying water quality in streams and lakes around Olympia, collecting plankton samples from a research vessel on Puget Sound, and working with students of all ages outside, I decided that I wanted to be a science teacher!
