Teaching only begins to describe what I get to do all day! I enjoy interacting with students, encouraging them to try, to be their best, and to take risks. We struggle together to understand, celebrate the "ah-ha's" and build a community that supports each other. Teaching intermediate grades is my favorite! I have taught 5th grade at Woodland for nine years. Prior to that I have taught in Salem, Oregon and Woodinville, Washington. We have a great 5th grade teaching team. We're excited for this year, even with the challenge of remote learning!
I am an Oregonian at heart. I grew up in Corvallis, and graduated from Oregon State University. My husband, Eric, and I moved to the Olympia area in 2006. We have three children who attended Woodland and have now all graduated from Timberline. My two boys are both in the Air Force, stationed in Mountain Home, Idaho. My oldest son is married. My daughter has become an Oregonian! In my spare time, I enjoy paper crafts, hiking, and spending time with my family. I also enjoy playing the piano. My grandmother was my piano teacher. Did you know playing music helps the brain make academic connections? I strongly encourage every fifth grader to play an instrument!
With teaching, the days go by so quickly! There is always something more to learn and discover. I hope to instill a curiosity and love of learning in my students. What they become passionate about at this age can lead to their lifetime career.
