Almost Marching & Pep Band
Marching Band (The Timberline Almost-Marching Band)
We don't really have a marching band because...
- We don't have any real marching uniforms.
- We don't have a field to practice on.
But that's okay, we still have fun at the football games playing from the stands. Each year at Homecoming, the Timberline High School "Almost Marching Band" (THSAMB) performs a very short "scatter drill" halftime show. We like to call it, "The Greatest Halftime Show Ever Created in 60 Minutes or less."
Pep Band
Students in the band are also part of the pep band that plays at assemblies and basketball games. We like to use a "Rock and Roll" rhythm section for basketball games.

Concert Band
The Concert Band is our entry-level ensemble. It can vary in size from 35-50 and up depending on the size of the entering freshman class. All students typically play in the Concert Band for at least one year before advancing to the Wind Ensemble.
The Concert Band plays a varied repertoire of music, including marches, traditional band literature, and contemporary compositions. The concert band participates in local concert band festivals, and occasionally has the chance to travel out-of-town for performances.
In 2014 the Concert Band received a Superior Ranking at the CMEA Band Festival. In the 2011 and 2013 CMEA Band Festival the Concert Band earned an Excellent+ ranking, and in 2013 the Concert Band was one of the highest ranking "feeder" ensembles, outscoring some "veteran" groups.

Drum Line
The Blazer Thunder Drum Line is a group rapidly growing in talent and popularity. In addition to performing at assemblies and other athletic events, the Drum Line has been invited to perform at other school and community functions, such as Freshman Orientation, Open House, and the Thurston County Fair. They have also been invited to play at events at several of the elementary schools.
In the 2013 Lacey Grand Parade, the Blazer Thunder (who entered the parade without the band due to it being prom night) won the Grand Marshall Sweepstakes Award.
The Blazer Thunder meets after school twice a week, and not all members are percussionists in the concert bands.
-
Jazz Band
Audition-only, this group focuses on Jazz material and has earned Superior rankings at the CMEA Jazz Festival several years running, and GOLD awards at the 2016 and 2018 Whistler International music festivals. They've also performed at the Capital City Jazz Festival, Clark College Jazz Festival, Commencement Bay Jazz Festival, Viking Jazz Festival, Olympia Wooden Boat Festival, Lacey Family Fun Fair, Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival and Lacey Rotary Duck Dash, among others.

Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble is an auditioned concert band of about 50 students. We play some very challenging music with some very high expectations.Every year from 2011 to 2019 the Wind Ensemble earned Superior rankings at the CMEA Band Festival, and they were the only concert ensemble to receive a GOLD award at the 2011 Heritage Festival in Vancouver, British Columbia. In 2014 at the same festival the Wind Ensemble earned a SILVER award playing a very difficult program against some very, very tough competition. In 2016 and 2018 the Wind Ensemble received GOLD Awards at the Whistler International Music Festival in Whistler, Canada. The Wind Ensemble typically travels to one or two out-of-town concert festivals at locations throughout the northwest, but has traveled as far as Southern California and British Columbia.
