Welcome to the Counselor's Office at Meadows!

    Greetings Meadows Families,

Thank you for visiting our counseling corner! Yes, we are online this Fall for Remote Learning 2.0! However, there are still several ways I can still provide support for your student.

      • Individual or group counseling
      • Family resources including parenting, family team planning, community resources
      • Connection to community therapists
      • Assistance through the North Thurston Education Foundation and the Family Youth Resource Center
      • Social/emotional learning and self regulation skills

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has extended a waiver that will allow us to serve free meals to all children (ages 1-18) through December 31, 2020. As a result of this news, meals will not be charged to student accounts as previously advertised, and we will no longer require you to register for a meal pick up location.

Meal service will be offered every school day beginning Wednesday, September 9, 2020. To offer flexibility for families, multiple meal service options, locations, and pick up times are available.  Please see link below for locations.  We have added back our bus route meal delivery locations in addition to our school sites as well.

Households are strongly encouraged to continue to apply for the Free and Reduced-Price meal program as Free meals may only be available until December 31, 2020.

Did you know that our district has a resource center for families? The Family and Youth Resource (FYR) Center has hygiene, school, and other supplies on Tuesdays 9-11 am and Thursdays 1-3 pm  Laundry facilities are available onsite:  https://www.nthurston.k12.wa.us/Page/23968
If you have specific needs that the FYR center is unable to provide (gas to access lunch pick up, rent, utilities, childcare), please email me to discuss some options.

If your student is struggling emotionally or mentally at this time please see the Mental Health link for guidance on how to talk to your child concerning the current health crisis and tools/strategies you can utilize to get through this.

If further assistance is needed regarding mental health please call me or email me and we can do some counseling over the phone. I can then assess if your child needs to be contacted by our mental health specialist, Shannon Reed or if outside resources are needed. You are not alone during this time, we are trained and here to help.

This is another great resource that is free from our Social Emotional Curriculum-Second Step

It is normal to feel anxious, sad, worried, or uncertain about our current situation. Please know that even though we are not together face to face at this time, there are still several ways we can stay connected with our current technology.

I am thinking about all of you and can’t wait until we can be together at Meadows again. We will get through this together!

    Hugs and Warm Thoughts,

    Ms. Cusack

    Hi Mustangs!
Welcome back to virtual school 2.0! I am so excited to be in my second year with Meadows. I miss seeing everyone in person but I know together we can get through this. I am available to offer mental health counseling to students who may need further support or connect you with an outside provider. If you are concerned about your child or have any questions please feel free to contact myself or Ms. Cusack through email or phone and we can discuss it further., all referrals are ran through the school counselor. I am here and ready to support your family through these times either directly or by providing you resources to help you navigate these unusual circumstances. I cannot wait until we can all be together again in person when it is safe to do so until then we can come together virtually and overcome any obstacle.
I hold a Master's Degree in Education in Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling from the University of Puget Sound. I also have an associate license as a mental health counselor with the state of Washington and an ESA school counselors certificate. This is my 5th year in the district and before that I worked in private practice and with emotional and behavioral disordered kids in a different school district. I love helping children and families reach their fullest potential and achieve their own definition of happiness =] Looking forward to working with you throughout this year and making it an awesome year!
