About Mrs. Fairchild

This will be my Lucky 13th year teaching in the North Thurston School District. I began my public school teaching experience at Evergreen Forest where I taught classroom music and beginning Orchestra. When Salish began, I graduated to middle school and began my dream job of teaching Orchestra with 6th, 7th and 8th grade string students. I continue to teach beginning strings at Lacey Elementary. I enjoy teaching, giving students what they need to develop skills on the instrument of their choice and planting seeds of curiosity and joy as they experience music.

I feel blessed to be part of a strong team of educators, especially at this time in our world's history. Now, more than ever, the relationships I build with students as we work together online is of upmost importance.  I want students to know I am here to help them learn about music, their instrument, and about how to make strong choices even in the most difficult of situations. We are a community of people, learning and working together with the idea and hope we will be together again to be an Orchestra!

I know full well the feeling of being a "lone player" and the silence brought by Covid. I am a professional violinist and a member of the South Puget Sound Community Symphony, serving as their Concertmaster. I miss being in rehearsals and making music with others!  I continue to practice on my violin so I am ready when we get to be together again. My husband, Steve, and I celebrated 35 years of marriage this past July 27! We have three adult children, Rowanne, Michael and Samuel. Steve and I enjoy traveling, hiking, yoga, gardening (he does the lawn, I do the flowerbeds), and we love spending time with our children and extended family and friends--masking up and social distancing included.

I truly look forward to the year ahead and to being a part of your home and family community. We are stronger together! I hope you will feel heard and supported as we work through this time together as partners in your child's education.
