“Choose a career that you are truly passionate about, regardless of what others may say.” -- Daryl Murrow - Timberline High School, 1983 alumni

As the new Lacey South Sound Chamber of Commerce president, Daryl Murrow (Class of 1983) has a lot to offer our community in terms of leadership development and coaching. The Timberline graduate (Class of 1983) launched his first business at the age of 25. He now runs his own company and is a published author of Gaining the Systems Advantage: Strategies to Eliminate Stress, Work Fewer Hours, and Be More Profitable in Your Business.

Murrow’s eyes were first opened to the world of business through a book he found while serving in the Air Force. Inspired by Money in Your Mailbox: How to Start and Operate a Mail-Order Business, by L. Perry Wilbur. Today, Murrow works as a provider of coaching and consulting services to business owners within the community. “What I enjoy most is working one-on-one with amazing business owners,” said Murrow. “I find tremendous satisfaction in helping them develop as leaders and witnessing how this development truly transforms their business.”

In school, Murrow played football and found the most enjoyment in his Spanish class. Murrow mentions that while he made an effort to be outgoing and social, he was actually “very shy and lacked confidence.”

“I spent a lot of time worrying what others would think of me,” said Murrow. “We are all unique individuals with unique gifts; I think it is important to boldly embrace who you are and live your life with courage and confidence.”

Outside of work, Murrow enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking, watching MMA fights, and eating great Mexican food. His favorite movie is The Breakfast Club. Murrow also enjoys spending time with his family, whether it be a weekly date night with his wife Raquel or just hanging out with his two sons, ages 19 and 25.

“I really like inspiring others to dream big and go after their dreams,” said Murrow. “I believe every person on earth has unique gifts to offer to the world, and it is up to us to figure out what these gifts are and use them to help make the world a better place to be.”

When asked to share some advice for students seeking to establish a career, Murrow said, “My advice is to choose a career that you are truly passionate about, regardless of what others may say. Dream big and make [your dreams] happen. Don’t let the opinions of others stop you from pursuing your goals and dreams!”
