Land Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that North Thurston Public Schools resides on the traditional lands of the Nisqually people. The Nisqually have lived on and cared for this land and these waterways since time immemorial. We make this acknowledgment to open a space of recognition, inclusion, and respect for our sovereign tribal partners and all indigenous students, families, and staff in our community.
We share a land acknowledgment statement at School Board meetings, school assemblies, district-wide public events, and evening events at our schools and buildings. Individuals should stand during the land acknowledgment.
NTPS developed the statement in partnership with the Nisqually Tribe. It is meant to recognize the original stewards of the lands on which we live and work, and to show respect for and gratitude to Native people.
The land acknowledgment is one of many ways we partner with area tribes. Learn more about our Native Student Program and our government-to-government partnership with the Nisqually Tribe.
