Komachin is a 2016 Washington Achievement Award Recipient

  • Komachin staff holding the award banner. Komachin has been awarded the prestigious Washington Achievement Award for the 2016 academic school year! 280 schools earned the distinction in this 8th year of the recognition in Washington schools.

    Komachin was honored for our progress with closing the achievement gap with Hispanic students. "I am proud of the hard work by students and staff at Komachin in helping students achieve. This award is a result of the entire community working together to help support our students in reaching their highest potential.

    The awards use the Washington State Achievement Index. The Achievement Index is the only statewide school accountability system recognized by both the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Education. The Achievement Index measures student proficiency in math, English language arts, science, student growth, and college and career readiness. Educators, families, and community members can use the Index to identify areas of strength and improvement in Washington’s schools.

    Schools are recognized in seven categories:
    • Overall Excellence
    • High Progress
    • English Language Arts Growth
    • Math Growth
    • Extended Graduation Rate (only awarded to high and comprehensive schools)
    • English Language Acquisition
    • Closing the Achievement Gap
