• Metacognitive Thinking   As they are reading, I will often ask students to stop and consider their own thinking as they've read.  In class, they use this Metacognitive Stem to help them articulate what they think about their own cognition.

Active Reading Stems  Students use these stems to engage actively in their reading.  Not only does this deepen their understanding in literature, they also use these strategies to annotate nonfiction articles and text.

Notice and Note  is a strategy for reading that encourages the reader to stop and take notice of significant details in the text.  Students are taught to be aware of signals in their reading.  When a signal appears they stop and ask themselves a question to better understand their reading.  This is a method they use in school to comprehend and analyze various texts.   (note tracking page)
