At the annual 5th and 6th grade track meet in June, students and parents crowded South Sound stadium cheering for their school. Students are identified by the color of their T-shirt. One particular group of navy shirts from Lakes stood out on the track. Three boys running – one on either end holding the rope and one, number 247, in the middle. They are all excited, they are all running. The only difference is that the middle boy, Emmit Douglas, is blind.
It's not everyday the House Education Committee visits your school, but Meadows staff & students enjoyed showing off their school & talking about real-life education issues including testing & teacher shortages.
