North Thurston Public Schools recognizes the intellectually gifted as those who possess exceptional cognitive ability, who demonstrate high academic performance, and who have superior thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Such students sometimes need special academic programs to provide them with intellectual challenges.

North Thurston Public Schools offers two programs for academically-talented students:

TAG program at Lakes Elementary School and Challenge Academy at Aspire Middle School.

Applications to both programs will be accepted as follows:

Challenge Academy: For students entering 6-8 grades, applications will
be accepted during the month of January.

TAG Program:           For students entering 3-5 grades, applications will be accepted
                                  during the month of February.

You may either download a referral form (Challenge Academy) or an application packet (TAG) on this page or request one by calling (360) 412-4497. Referrals to these programs are accepted from teachers, other staff, parents, students, and members of the community.

In addition to the programs above, we offer honors programs in all middle schools. At the high school level, students have access to a wide selection of AP courses.
