Dear Nisqually Middle School Students and Families,

Now is a great time to revisit your goals for the school year.  I hope you will all take time to reflect on your school experiences thus far as we complete the first quarter of the year and enter into our second quarter.  This is a great time to assess your academic and social accomplishments. Are your grades where you would like them to be?  Have you made new friends and have you gotten involved in at least one school activity?

There are numerous opportunities to support students’ needs on a variety of levels here at Nisqually. During the day we offer a tutorial session which meets three times each week for roughly four weeks.  The goal of the tutorial program is to offer students more time, re-teaching, and re-testing in smaller environments to ensure success in their classes.  Students who are not part of these academic tutorials may take a variety of enriching tutorials such as art, shop, technology, recreational activities, and social support classes.  If a student or parent wishes to request a particular academic tutorial they should contact their student’s advisory teacher.

We also offer a before school program, referred to as Steps to Success.  This program meets four days each week and includes both academic and social development and support for our students.  If you wish more information about this program please contact our school counselors. Don’t forget to check out our website for the afterschool sports activities.

In addition to providing various assistance programs for our students, we have also made it our mission to honor and celebrate our students in as many different ways as possible.  We currently hold honor level activities, which regularly reward students’ behavior, and academic and sports recognitions are acknowledged during our student assemblies. Your students may have mentioned our Totem tickets which are awarded for any good deed or behavior throughout the school day.  Our quarterly student recognition ceremonies are another way for us to reach out and acknowledge the wonderful things students do each day at Nisqually middle school to make it a better place. It is our goal to recognize every student at some time during the year.
