Special Education is a term referring to programs designed to accommodate a wide variety of students with special needs, from hearing or vision impairment, to speech difficulties, to severe mental and/or physical disability.
What is constant is our belief that all children can learn, and that it is our responsibility to help them try to reach their potential - the same belief that drives the instruction we offer to all students in our school
We firmly believe that every child can learn; how much and how fast depends on the nature of the challenge.
I suspect my child has a learning disability. What should I do?
If you suspect that your child has a learning disability of any kind, you should contact his/her teacher, counselor, or doctor for further information to determine whether a referral for evaluation is needed.
What is a referral?
A referral is a request for evaluation to determine if your child has a disability and may be eligible for special education services. When a referral is made, a specific timeline and process is followed.
Who can make a referral?
Anyone who is involved with the child may make a referral when there is a suspected disability. Usually a referral is made by the parent, teacher, counselor, or doctor.
Child Find
If you have concerns about the development of your child, age 0-5, you may want to participate in our "ChildFind" screening. All areas of development are evaluated. If a developmental delay is noted, an in-depth assessment of your child can be scheduled. "ChildFind" is held approximately every six weeks at various locations. To refer a school-age student, age 5-21, for special education services, please contact your school principal.
