North Thurston Public Schools takes "Learning" seriously - not just for students but adults as well. To support "Learning for All", the District has researched best practices in Professional Development and believes in the National Staff Development Council's mission that:
To increase student learning, effective professional development must be an integral part of the School Improvement Plan and process.
Professional Development offerings are "All About Learning" and are provided to district staff including: teachers, administrators, Para-educators, office professionals, substitute teachers and more.
Many District resources are provided so that District staff may attend workshops. The District wrote a Waiver to the State of Washington in 2004-05 providing seven "non-student" work days identified for learning related to school improvement. Additionally, all schools have 12 late starts throughout the year and various contracted learning days throughout the year. Staff may earn clock hours for participation at workshops.
