Principal: Tim Fries

Mr. Fries

Welcome to Horizons Elementary School Website!

Our students distinguish themselves in behavior, academics, and outside achievements. The parent volunteers and PTSA are dedicated to helping all students succeed.  Our staff are child centered and that is demonstrated every day in how they work with students.  It is the combination of students, staff, and families that makes the Horizons community a great place to learn, to work, and of which to be a part.

As is true for all of the North Thurston Public Schools, we are actively involved in the “Effective Schools” work.  The goal of Effective Schools is simple: Learning for all – whatever it takes.

The essential elements of Effective Schools are:
    •  Strong principal and teacher leadership
    •  Safe and orderly learning climate
    •  All district curricula aligned to state standards
    •  High expectations for all students
    •  Frequent monitoring of student understanding and performance
    •  Opportunityto learn with enough time spent on core subjects
    •  Parent and community involvement

Research has shown that children benefit most from their educational programs when their families are actively involved in their schooling. Children feel a sense of pride when their families support their school activities. We love your ideas, insights, and inspiration as you join with us in working with your children…our students. We encourage you to be actively involved with our PTSA by attending monthly evening meetings. We also hope you will help with PTSA special activities and events throughout the year. There are many opportunities to volunteer at Horizons, and we hope you will find ways to help in the classrooms, office, library, and other places.  We recognize that not all families have the same amount of time to give, and that people have different interests, skills, and talents. We have such a wide variety of options, that there is something that fits almost every family’s situation. We look forward to your partnership!

We encourage you and your child to familiarize yourselves with the contents of Horizons ElementarySchool Student Handbook.  It contains information regarding school procedures, practices, guidelines, and behavior expectations that are a part of our daily school life here at Horizons Elementary . If you have questions or concerns about anything in the handbook, please feel free to call or come in to discuss them with us.

I personally feel proud to be a part of Horizons. It is the students, staff, parents, and community that make HorizonsElementary School great. Together we work to make Everyone a Teacher, Everyone a Learner, Everyone a Success
