Walmart donation Walmart gives back to Chambers Prairie

The Lacey Walmart chose Chambers Prairie for their community giving of school supplies and twenty $50 gift cards. Nearly every teacher got one!

It isn’t every day that someone calls and says, “Hi, I have $1,000 to give to you.”  In fact, it hasn’t ever happened to me in over 20 years as a school principal, said Chambers Prairie Principal, Stan Koep.

Walmart’s Community Coordinator/Personnel Manager, Vickie Hagemeier came to a staff meeting at Chambers Prairie and distributed twenty $50 gift cards to staff members. Vickie said that Walmart does this to show their appreciation for teachers, and because they know that teachers spend a good deal of their own money to meet their students’ needs.

In addition, Vickie and her helper brought a fifty-gallon tub full of school supplies. The supplies are being used for students in need here at Chambers Prairie, and for children in Afghanistan. Chambers Prairie students and staff have mailed 49 care packages to soldiers in Afghanistan. One thing that soldiers have requested is school supplies to hand out to children. “It’s a great feeling to know that some of the supplies donated to Chambers Prairie are in the hands of Afghan children,” said Koep.
