  • River Ridge wins pair at South Sound Classic

  • Pilot brings Iditarod to South Bay students

    They say that dog is man’s best friend, but students in Wade Kiekhaefer’s third grade class at South Bay elementary recently learned about one dog who not only saved lives but inspired today’s Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, often called “The Last Great Race on Earth,” which covers over 1,100 miles from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska.

    In December, the Adopt-A-Unit from JBLM visited Meadows for another fun session of Monday Milers. Monday Milers is a running/walking incentive program that encourages and promotes good health for all Meadows students K-6.

    When you walk into Forrest Clark’s math tutorial at Nisqually Middle School, the first thing you notice is that every student is diligently on task solving problems. The second thing you notice is that they are working cooperatively, as a few select students circle the room to assist others when asked for help.

    When Seven Oaks art teacher Jill Giudice commissioned students in Jacquie Boginski’s fourth grade class to design a poster for the Lacey Chamber auction, she didn’t tell them there might be a party involved.

  • Miss Washington visits Nisqually Middle School

    A celebrity was recently spotted at Nisqually Middle School, complete with crown and sash. Brittney Henry, Miss Washington 2011, came to the school as part of her efforts to support the Washington National Guard Counter Drug Task Force. She uses this as her initiative to have a positive influence on teens and make good choices.

    Students at Woodland elementary got a chance to be a little wacky last month with a visit from two-time Guinness World Record holder Alex Zerbe (www.alexzerbe.com) sponsored by the school PTA.
