  • River Ridge student shines at Thespian Nationals

    Olivia, a River Ridge student recently received three Superior ratings at Thespian Nationals. In addition, Olivia completed leadership training, was called back by a dozen universities, saw 10 full length productions and was in a various workshops including the Global Casting Director for Disney Productions Worldwide. Way to go!

  • Annual track meet challenges 5th and 6th graders

    This year was the 12th annual track meet for all NTPS students. There were approximately 7,000 students who competed. Thank you to all the volunteers who return year after year to make this event possible!

  • Former teacher turned businesswoman displays student artwork at store

    Once a math teacher at Nisqually Middle School, Sarah Barrera turned to baking and business after her children were born and opened The Cupcake Gallery in Olympia at 4th and Plum. Barrera now displays student art work from a specific school each month and gives 10 percent of the proceeds each month to that school’s art program. More than 40 “Math Stars” from each school nominated by their teachers for exemplary achievement or leadership in math were recognized at the April 17 board meeting.   • South Sound students qualify for national math meet

    The Washington State Mathleague.org Championship Math Meet was on Saturday at The Evergreen State College. The event drew 23 students from North Thurston, Olympia and River Ridge high schools. Twelve students qualified to go onto the national championship round, which will be May 18 in Kansas City. Team results included: 2nd Place Team - North Thurston High School and 3rd Place Team - River Ridge High School!

  • District Tour: School board members get first-hand look at 21 schools

    Being a school board member takes a special individual. It is someone who runs for office, committing (at least) four years of volunteer work on behalf of public education, including late night board meetings and lots of reading! For new members, like Marcia Coppin, it can also mean a huge learning curve full of programs, educational jargon, federal and state mandates, budgets and policies. So Board President Chuck Namit decided to help arrange a first-hand look at the schools.
