Recent studies have focused much public attention on the growing number of children and adolescents who are poorly nourished, overweight and inactive.  These issues threaten the long-term physical and emotional health of our youth.

As school food and nutrition professionals, we see ourselves uniquely positioned to promote healthy eating habits.  To further enhance the nutrition integrity of our program we have implemented the following:

  • A larger variety of fresh fruits and vegetables offered daily.
  • Complex carbohydrate increasingly offered in the form of whole wheat breads, hamburger buns, pizza crust, tortillas and cereal.
  • Dessert items offered less frequently.
  • Canned and processed fruits and vegetables replaced with fresh, whole foods where possible.
  • Fruit juice is offered in moderation.  Only 100% fruit juice is served.
  • French fries and other potato products are offered in moderation and are baked instead of fried.
  • 1% white and non-fat chocolate milk offered daily at breakfast and lunch.
  • Salad mixes are made of a variety of nutrient dense dark greens.
  • Quick stop items are offered at the secondary level to provide convenient healthy options, for example, fresh salads, sandwiches, wraps, and fruit & yogurt parfaits

The price for a middle school breakfast is $1.75, and lunch is $3.00.  For reduced lunch pricing click here
